COMMUNITY OF ARCHITECTS NETWORK (CAN) WORKSHOP AND MINI CONCERT
The Community Architect Network (CAN) is a program under the Asian Coalition for Housing Rights (ACHR) based in Bangkok, Thailand. The ACHR is a regional coalition established in 1988 by non-government and community-based organizations, professionals and individuals actively involved in housing concerns of the urban poor. It has now members in 17 Asian countries. |
CAN's mission is to create a platform to link architects, engineers, planners, universities and community artisans all over the world who work with communities and believe that poor communities should play a central role in planning their communities. It also aims to find solutions for better settlements and more inclusive cities. CAN initiates various activities for the different groups to support each other’s work and to share and exchange experience knowledge amongst network members.
The CAN Mini Concert is a culminating event for the participating communities and delegates of the Community Architects Network. It is co-organized by CAN and UP TFA.
For the past CAN Workshops, UP TFA has served as participants and as a secretariat committee.

KALINGA DAY CARE CENTER (KDCC) RENOVATION
Last 2016, UP TFA took on the challenge to redesign the Kalinga Day Care Center (KDCC) as a volunteer design and construction project for the benefit of KDCC, a project of UP Center for Women's Studies. The said child center was struck badly by the typhoon Lando in 2015. UP TFA then spearheaded this project in order for the child center to be of full use again for the children. The renovation involved architectural, interior and landscaping consultations, design and revisions by TFA members and volunteers to Dr. Odine Maria de Guzman, the UP Center for Women's & Gender Studies Directress. And after almost a year of considerate design and planning, the construction and landscaping phase will be finally carried out this year. |
